Cingulum bars (continuous bars) and linguoplates

Since the cingulum bar and lingual plates are placed on inclined lingual surfaces, they should not be used without auxiliary occlusal rests or canine rests. A continuous bar or the superior border of the linguoplate should never be positioned above the middle third of the teeth in Class I and Class II partial dentures in particular. This will prevent orthodontic movement when a distal extension denture rotates around the primary fulcrum line (Figure 4-6 and 4-7).
