Chapter 10. Preparation of the Mouth for Removable Partial Dentures

Mouth preparation procedures are performed to ensure the long-term success of the RPD and to restore the oral cavity to optimal health prior to prosthesis fabrication; these are completed before the final impression procedure for obtaining the master cast.

Oral surgical preparation, tissue healing, periodontal preparation, adjustments to the occlusal plane and tooth arrangement, as well as preparations on the abutment teeth, are addressed within this process.
